MK Knives & Tools – Excellence in Knifemaking
MK Knives & Tools – Marcin Kampka. Knife designer and knifemaker. His knives are characterized by outstanding workmanship and exceptional attention to details. Knives with a highly recognizable line, style and colors are great for a variety of tasks: everyday, survival, bushcraft, tactical and general outdoor. In addition to the usable sphere, the visual setting and the variety of workmanship, especially appreciated by collectors, are of great importance in MK projects. Particular attention should be paid to the treatment of each project as a unique whole. Each knife presents its individual features, but holsters also have their distinguishing features. Holsters are finished as carefully as the knives themselves, which strongly distinguishes them in the knife world. The knifemaker approaches his work with patience and full commitment. Especially the first of these features develops while practicing the fishing hobby, because as we know, nothing refreshes the mind as much as a distraction, even a temporary one that will allow you to relax in a different than everyday environment.
Nomad Knife – Versatility and Universality
Nomad is the most universal knife with fixed blade among the models designed by knifemaker Marcin Kampka. Nomad knife is designed as a first choice tool for field trips, campsites and longer campsites. Its modern but subdued design will probably appeal to a wide variety of users. Traditionalists will appreciate its optimal dimensions and shape using natural hand cavities, supporters of novelties – materials used in the manufacturing process and the way of finishing. Nomad (MK-01) is a knife that would surely answer the question of what blade to take when we could choose only one tool (to be able to work with it as universally as possible). Nomad knife from among all MK Knives & Tools models that can be used in the most versatile way.
Nomad Knife – Material Diversity
Nomad knife is produced from different types of steel (Vanax, Elmax, Vanadis 4 Extra, Vanadis 23 etc.), with different ways of finishing the blade (PVD coating, DLC coating, glassblasted finish, stonewash finish, satin etc.). The handle is made of various type of materials: G10 composite, micarta, carbon fiber and so on with a variety of colors and different original patterns, precisely choosed by knifemaker. For each model, the knifemaker forms a suitable holster from Kydex (or another material), whose colours (holster and accessories) match those of the blade and handle to make a consistent set. The materials used decide on a more precise use of the knife. For example, models in black PVD or DLC with a Kydex holster in dark colours will surely be of interest to those who prefer military-tactical solutions, considering also that all holsters can be mounted to the MOLLE system, harness components or tactical backpack.
Nomad “Wind Rose” – Blade Strength
Durable Steel as The Core of The Knife Construction
The Nomad “Wind Rose” is a knife made of Sleipner steel with a full-tang construction, where the handle scales are attached to the steel running through the entire length and width of the handle. Sleipner is a high-quality alloy steel, far surpassing commonly available tool steels in its properties. This steel is highly resistant to mechanical damage (chips, etc.), twisting, and overloading. It sharpens relatively easily and stays sharp for a long time. With proper care, it has fairly good corrosion resistance. Due to its high impact toughness, Sleipner steel is commonly used in large knives naturally intended for extreme use.
The steel in the presented knife is coated with one of the best coatings available on the market. It is a black DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating with a hardness close to 90 HRC (the maximum on the HRC scale is 100). Sleipner steel coated with this DLC coating practically does not corrode. The coating is very durable and has anti-reflective properties, which is important for tactical knife applications.
Accurate Knife Dimensions
The dimensions of the Nomad knife determine its very universal use. Accurate length (230 mm), predisposes it to various outdoor use, while the thickness of the head (5 mm), shape and construction materials used make it useful for more serious bushcraft, survival and even tactical activities. The size of the knife will allow for skillfully performing kitchen and camp work (preparing meals, planing, etc. ), but it will also make it possible to perform heavier casual camp tasks (stabbing, punching, etc.).
Grind and Blade Shape for Efficient Cutting
The knife blade has been profiled in the drop point style with innovative groove grind (GG / hollow). It is visible at first glance in the form of characteristic grooves on both the correct blade and the false blade. The concavity of the cut is very subtle and, in addition to the visual effect, is designed to support the cutting process (it reduces the effect of the material sticking to the blade and facilitates splitting of the material).
On the back of the blade there is a jimpig, which makes it easier to press the blade of the knife to the material being cut. This element enables precise cuts, makes it easier to guide the cutting edge along the material and helps with cuts that require pressure.
Durable Knife Handle
The shape and design of the handle
Slender, neat oval of the handle fits very well and lies firmly in the hand. Its gentle profiling helps to prevent the hand from slipping onto the cutting edge. The rounded spine protruding from each side of the handle makes the knife comfortable and secure.
Handle materials
The handle linings are made of G10 composite. G1o is resistant to moisture, temperature changes, most solvents and acids, and has high resistance to mechanical damage. In the presented knife, the cover material has a milled pattern that prevents the handle from slipping in the hand. The handle covers have been screwed with steel screws, the finish is consistent with the design of the blade.
Reliable and Comfortable Holstex Holster
Experience the ultimate in impact resistance and moisture resistance with the hand-formedHolstex holster designed for your knife. Crafted to withstand scratches and various weather conditions, this holster is also highly resistant to chemicals.
Easy Attachment Options: The holster conveniently attaches to your belt using a leather loop. Equipped with pass-through holes, it offers the flexibility to secure it to a backpack or tactical harness using cordage, paracord, or even a paracord section matching the knife’s design.
For tactical enthusiasts, the knifemaker has designed an optional Kydex buckle that enables mounting on a belt as well as MOLLE-compatible systems*. The buckle is not included as part of the original set but can be purchased separately HERE.
For additional customization options, the knifemaker has designed an angled buckle that allows the knife to be carried in the holster on the belt at a chosen angle, offering a more discreet or pronounced carry style. You can order the buckle HERE.
* The buckle designed by the knifemaker is compatible with MOLLE systems. To attach the buckle, simply remove the module with textile loop
